Oxlife Independence Concentrator Review

Hi all! Sorry for the lack of posts lately, we are trying to make sure we post regularly, but there might be some times like last week where our attention is needed else where. This will not be a normal occurrence and once again, we apologize for the lack of posts!

The Oxlife Independence from O2-Concepts is the latest continuous flow portable oxygen oxlife independence
concentrators to hit the market. The Oxlife Independence didn’t get released until the beginning of last year, but in its short time on the market, it has definitely made a name for itself. Weighing 21.4 lbs with two batteries in the unit, the Oxlife Independence is similar to the other continuous flow portables in size and weight. The dimensions are:  20.2″ H x 10.9″ W x 8″ D. The Oxlife Independence also has a similar oxygen output to the other continuous flow units. It has the ability to go from 0.5-3.0 LPM continuous flow and you can switch the unit over to pulse flow up to a setting of 6. Despite the similarities to other concentrators, the Oxlife Independence has a few features that really stand out.

The best feature of the Oxlife Independence is the battery system as a whole. Whether you are just charging batteries, using the unit, or needing to change batteries, O2-Concepts has revolutionized the way continuous flow concentrators work. Most continuous flow portables will only run on the DC Power Supply with restrictions on how high your flow rate can be, but they do not actually charge the battery in the car. The Oxlife Independence will not only work off the DC Power Supply on any flow rate, but it will charge your batteries on settings of 2 LPM continuous and below, and it will charge your batteries on pulse flow on a setting of 4 or lower.

The Oxlife Independence is equipped with dual battery terminals. Every other continuous flow concentrator only takes one battery at a time. The great thing about having two batteries is the ability to lighten your concentrator if it’s too heavy for you. The dual battery terminals allow the patient to “hot swap” the batteries. If one of the batteries dies, the patient can simply take it out and put a new battery in without turning the machine off. This unit also gets the best battery life out of any of the continuous flow concentrators! Here is a chart for the Oxlife’s expected battery life:

The way the Oxlife is manufactured simplifies storing and transporting the concentrator. It has an integrated cart with a collapsible handle and 6″ wheels. The integrated cart and collapsible handle make storing the Oxlife Independence hassle free. If you are a frequent traveler, the Oxlife is the perfect size to fit under the seat in front of you on the plane, or you can easily store it in your car out of your passengers way. The 6″ wheels make the concentrator much easier to transport. The wheels are big enough to not get caught on small cracks in the side-walk, yet small enough to not get caught going around corners. The wheels also make it easier to transport your Oxlife Independence in lousy weather. Trying to maneuver a concentrator with small wheels

through snow or on a rough path is cumbersome and requires you to use more energy. Despite being the newest continuous flow concentrator, the Oxlife Independence is making a name for itself. It has set higher standards for other manufacturers to meet and it has improved the patient experience. It started with a sleek design and has been gaining momentum ever since. Overall, the Oxlife Independence is a great machine. The features it boasts make this concentrator the total package.
